Welcome to the Newland House Museum, the oldest and best-preserved residence in Huntington Beach. Built in 1898 for pioneers William and Mary Newland and their ten children, this Queen Anne-style Victorian farmhouse offers a captivating look into local history. Originally the center of a 500-acre agricultural ranch, the home was abandoned until 1974, when the HB Historical Society stepped in to restore it. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, it stands as a testament to our community's commitment to preservation. Maintained through a partnership with the City of Huntington Beach, this landmark invites visitors to step back in time and explore the authentically furnished rooms where the Newland family lived and shaped our coastal community.

Museum Tours

1st & 3rd weekends, 

8AM - NOON

The Newland House is open on the 1st and 3rd weekends of the month between 8AM - Noon for tours led by our volunteer docents. Admission is a suggested $2 donation for adults, $1 for children.

Special house tours for schools or groups can be scheduled by emailing HBHistory@aol.com. This includes a tour of the house, garden, and grounds. Activity sheets and suggestions available. Suitable for California history.

Newland Barn Weddings & Events

During the restoration of the Newland House, the modern barn building in the rear was constructed to serve as a community centre for events. This building is now owned and managed by the City of Huntington Beach, please follow this link for all inquiries:

LIGHTING

Our Historical Society volunteers can provide beautiful string lighting suspended from the historic Newland covered water tower. 

 

We also built a gazebo in the same style as the Newland House for use by weddings and events. 

​

For use of the lighting or gazebo we kindly request a donation so we can keep this historic site in good order and to facilitate future events.  Inquiries regarding our gazebo and our water tower lighting please email HBHistory@aol.com.
